It is like an ancient habit of Indonesian. I remember, when I was young, we use banana leaf alot. along the culutral change, people prefer using ceramic dishes when having meal. it is also because of the scarcity of the leaf itself. It is not cheap anymore. For me, even maybe the leaf is not cheaper than disposal dishes, I still believe that those leaf are healthier and saver.
Todays, in some restaurant, banana leaf uses as a cultural expression of the gourmet, but in my home, it is really help me to make our breakfast getting simple. Just attache the leaf on the plate, and place rice or even bread on it. After breakfast, just throw out the leaf and put back the plate on dishes rack and ...run..... we all run to our destination...
